Ephesians 5:1-2: Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath giving himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.
Dearly Beloved, God has called us into a place of honor and virtue. The choice to make us one with Him was only by his mercy and not because we merited it. After the fall of man through the errors of the first Adamic vessel, no man was able to meet the standards of the monarch of Zion when it comes to the works of righteousness and perfection, hence our works, tears, sacrifices and self righteousness could not earn us a chance to correct the mishap that bedeviled the whole of humanity save the dying on the cross by the second Adamic vessel, our Lord and saviour, the Christ. His blood ushered us in to a spiritual reality where our disconnected spirits were revitalised and re-connected to be alive in Him and through Him alone, Romans 8:10-11.
John 15:5; I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.
The consequence of this text unravels the mystery behind true and sincere followership. God will never force any man to follow Him because it is not in His nature to influence or short-change the will of any man, however Jesus is telling us that it is only by our willful connection to the source of life that the resources for life’s fruitfulness will flow our way, hence it is in our best interest to be connected through intimate fellowship.
Fellowship through intimacy is the bedrock on which a solid followership is built and this can only be possible when our spirit comes in alignment with God’s Spirit. The invitation is crucial to make us comply by right and by choice to His governing influence. By right as sons because a son is expected to have the nature of the father (Galatians 4:1-7) and yet by choice as friends because friends are expected to share secrets together (John 15:15-16).
Sonship is by faith and friendship is by works, hence James 2:26 tells us as the body without the spirit is dead so is faith without works. Now, the works talked about on this context is not the dead works of self-righteousness through the fulfilment of the law but rather the good works that comes out of our intimate relationship with God’s Spirit. No wonder we are told that as many that are led by the Spirit are the true sons of God, Romans 8:14. There are too many rebellious specimens claiming sonship by faith, if truly they are of God then their good works should be seen as they interact consistently with the Spirit. The Spirit can never lead anyone astray, He is the Spirit of truth and whatever He tells us to do is the truth. Hence the subject “followership by choice” is aimed at willfully coming into alignment with the Spirit unto matured sonship where we are also friends, and rugged followers of our father.
As a rugged follower of Jesus you must always be ready to drink of His cup at all times. Your spiritual Birth-marks are the excerpts of your cave experience, it is in the cave that u are carved to take the shape of His mirror image. If you are yet to experience His fire, then it’s obvious you’re not yet in the furnace, because the furnace is that crucible where you are thoroughly furnished unto every good work by His Spirit. The furnance is that spiritual atmosphere where all that exist to you and through you is in God and for God alone.
❤Beloved It will be in our best interest to take up our cross and follow the master today.
